The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has selected Baker Communications to deliver Exceptional Presentations and Crisis Media Communications Training for department employees who perform public briefings. The CDPHE has a responsibility to inform the public effectively, professionally and honestly about public health issues and environmental crises, so presentation and communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively and appropriately handle the media, are critical for the department. CDPHE representatives were particularly interested in the recorded practice presentations that are incorporated into the workshop structure, because it will allow participants to gauge their own progress, see areas in need of improvement, and provide them the benefit of one-on-one feedback with seminar leaders.
Senior-Level Instructors, Presentations and Crisis Media Experts from Baker Communications will travel to Denver, Colorado to lead the communication workshops. Participants in the Effective Presentations session will learn how to structure and organize information and deliver a succinct, informative and effective presentation. During the workshop, they have the opportunity to deliver a series practice presentations for review and critique. Crisis Media training attendees will learn to anticipate and avoid common media pitfalls, as well as how to quickly prepare effective statements to address a variety of crisis issues. This unique workshop guides participants through targeted exercises, exploring a variety of media challenges and providing the skills to confidently and consistently make wise choices when interfacing with the public and the media.
